Economic growth, social stability and environmental protection are frequently perceived to be at odds. Sustainable development envisions an alternative economic paradigm where business succeeds by strengthening surrounding communities and preserving or restoring the local natural environment. A powerful way to develop this sustainable economic paradigm is by supporting the start-up or scale-up of enterprises founded with these same principles and goals.
New Ventures-Mexico selects small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in fast-growth, sectors such as ecotourism, non-timber forest products and certified wood, organic foods and fibers, renewable energy, sustainable fisheries management, and clean technologies. A network of "feeders" identifies potential entrepreneurs. Once identified, environmental experts and financial analysts conduct a rigorous evaluation to select a group of finalists.
These finalists receive pro-bono consulting through our Mentoring Program that engages corporate executives, professional consultants and MBA students. Entrepreneurs are then invited to present their business plans at a New Ventures Investor Forum. New Ventures entrepreneurs remain engaged with the Mentoring Program after the Investor Forum to further strengthen their business plans and increase their chances of becoming successful mainstream companies through securing investment.
